Rosalyn Named Chairwoman of Indonesian Economic Geologists Society (MGEI)

Jakarta – Rosalyn Wullandhary was officially inaugurated as the new Chairwoman of the Indonesian Society of Economic Geologists (MGEI) on December 19, 2023, succeeding STJ Budi Santoso and Andyono Broto Santoso, at a handover ceremony.

The MGEI, a prominent organization in Indonesia’s economic geology sector, is dedicated to the advancement of sustainable geological practices and collaboration among geologists, researchers, and industry professionals.

This leadership transition marks a significant moment for the organization as it embarks on a new three-year term under Wullandhary’s guidance. The organization was formed in Bandung on August 27, 2008, during the annual scientific meeting of IAGI, and it was initially focused on economic geology.

The MGEI was initially formed from a forum of activists in the mining sector of minerals and coal in a mailing list called economicgeology@yahoo.com, which began in 2007. The mailing list had about 200 members at the time of MGEI’s declaration, and has since grown to about 500 members, both within Indonesia and internationally.

The organization’s goal is to enhance the professionalism of Indonesian geologists in economic geology to compete internationally. MGEI aims to promote responsible, effective, and efficient development and utilization of mineral resources for the prosperity of the Indonesian people.

During his term, Budi Santoso focused on strengthening MGEI’s regional and international presence. Andyono Broto Santoso’s interim leadership was characterized by efforts to ensure a smooth organizational transition while maintaining ongoing initiatives.

MGEI expressed its gratitude and appreciation for the hard work and dedication of STJ Budi Santoso as Chairman of MGEI for the 2021-2023 term, and Andyono Broto Santoso as the Acting Chairman of MGEI for the 2023-2024 term.
