IDXCarbon Reaches 1 Million Ton Milestone, Adds Three New Carbon Projects

Jakarta, IndonesiaIDXCarbon achieved a significant milestone in early 2025, with cumulative trading volume reaching 1,000,000 tons of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) since its launch on September 26, 2023. This milestone was reached on the first trading day of 2025, January 2nd, and is accompanied by the addition of three new carbon projects.

The growth of IDXCarbon is further highlighted by the increase in its user base, which reached 100 service users by the end of 2024, more than double the number recorded in 2023. This growth indicates the increasing importance of carbon trading in Indonesia as part of the country’s efforts to support sustainable development and mitigate climate change.

The three newly added carbon projects include:

  • PT PLN Indonesia Power’s operation of a new gas-fired power plant, PLTGU Priok Block 4, with 763,653 tCO2e and a vintage year of 2021.
  • PT PLN Indonesia Power’s conversion of a single cycle to a combined cycle power plant, PLTGU Grati Block 2, with 407,390 tCO2e and a vintage year of 2021.
  • PT PLN Nusantara Power’s conversion of a single cycle to a combined cycle plant, Block 2 PLN NP UP Muara Tawar, with 30,000 tCO2e and a vintage year of 2023.

These projects are classified as IDTBS, indicating that they are technology-based reduction units originating from Indonesia. With the addition of these three projects, IDXCarbon now has six tradable carbon projects. This positive development is expected to further increase carbon transaction volumes and support the growth of green industries, aligning with Indonesia’s energy transition goals.
