Marine reclamation includes initiatives such as creating artificial reefs, restocking cuttlefish, installing fish shelters, mangrove planting, and coral transplantation. These activities aim to restore ecosystems and safeguard biodiversity in the areas surrounding the company’s operations.
Extreme climate change poses a significant challenge to PT Timah’s operations, prompting the company to adopt decarbonization measures. These include energy efficiency programs, carbon emission reduction strategies, and environmentally responsible mining practices. Key initiatives include monitoring air emissions, optimizing biodiesel use, and transitioning to low-emission energy sources. PT Timah has implemented solar photovoltaic systems at its Mentok smelter, generating up to 3 MW of power. The company is also working toward converting its mining equipment from fossil fuels to electric power, enhancing both environmental and operational efficiency.
